The silence overwhelmed her.  This wasn’t how it was supposed to end.  Not like this.  She stared into his eyes, allowing his heart to beat for the both of them. 

 

His dark brown eyes penetrated Adelynn’s soul one last time, giving her the strength she would need to escape.  Leave Niklas behind.  With so many thoughts at once, she shook her head and whispered, “I can’t do this.”
